2007, Cluj-Napoca - seventh ECCB Conference

The 7th conference of the European Committee for Conservation of Bryophytes was held at the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca from 2nd to 4th September 2007.

17 bryologists participated on the meeting from 12 countries (Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Great Britain, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Switzerland). During the meeting 10 oral communications were presented. The topics were the follows: Important Bryophyte Areas, habitats and conservation of threatened and rare bryophytes, and monitoring programs.

Then excursions were made in the Apuseni Nature Park. A full day excursion was dedicated to The Fortress of Ponor, which is one of the greatest and most impressive karst system in Romania comprised of three large, 300 m deep, forested stone circles (dolines). On the other days a huge peat bog area (Molhaşul Mare from Izbuc), Bear Cave and 1 Mai Natural Reserve (thermal spring with waterlily) were visited.

The meeting was closed with a fantastic Gala dinner in Chios Restaurant in the Central Park of Cluj-Napoca.
