The 5th Conference of the Committee for Conservation of Bryophytes was held in the Botanic Garden of Valencia from 21st to 23rd September 2004. It was organized by the ECCB and Dr. Felisa Puche from the University of Valencia.

37 bryologists from 13 countries met in Valencia and the proportion of young students was very encouraging. Most of the participants came from Spain (14 people), Portugal (6 participants) and Great Britain (4 participants), but Norway, Switzerland, Hungary, Sweden, France, Belarus, Estonia, Bulgaria, Belgium and even South Africa were represented in the conference.

During the Meeting, 13 posters and 12 oral communications were presented.

An excursion was organised to the Natural Reserve “Carrascal de la Font Roja”, one of the best examples of warm and humid Mediterranean forest with well-developed strata of both shrubs and climbers.

The 4th Conference of the European Committee for Conservation of Bryophytes was held at the at the Congress Centre Průhonice near Prague in Czech Republic from 1st to 2nd July 2001.

54 bryologists participated on the meeting from 19 European countries (Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland) and even Hong Kong was represented in the conference. During the meeting 16 oral presentations and 21 posters were presented in the following topics: Action plans for bryophytes and Important plant areas for bryophytes.

The 3rd Conference of the European Committee for Conservation of Bryophytes was held at the at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim from 30th August to 4th September 1998.

51 bryologists participated on the meeting from 16 European countries (Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland) and even Canada was represented in the conference. During the meeting 18 oral presentations and 12 posters were presented. The following questions were addressed at the meeting: What is a rare species? Where do we find rare species? How to select species for conservation and how to conserve them?

During the meeting a guided tour was organised in the Botanical Garden and on the last two days the participants visited protected areas in the surrounding of Trondheim, which are habitats of rich bryophyte vegetation with several rarities.
